Can CBD Help Treat Acne & Eczema

by Edward J. Ross

People have used natural remedies for thousands of years to promote healthy, beautiful skin. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound in the cannabis plant that is becoming increasingly popular. From topical pain relievers and skin softeners, to potential acne treatments, CBD-containing products are ubiquitous.

What is Acne?

Acne is a condition in which excess oil, dirt, and dead skin cells clog pores. Propionibacterium acne can build up in pores and cause irritating red spots, so acne treatment includes keeping skin clean, free of acne-causing bacteria, and reducing excess oil, which can block the skin.

Can CBD really help treat acne?

Research on acne and CBD relates the power of CBD to prevent processes that are known to cause acne (such as excessive accumulation of fat) and the underlying causes of acne. One of the most promising studies was published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. The researchers measured the effects of CBD compounds on human skin and oil-producing glands in a controlled laboratory environment. The sebaceous glands have anti-inflammatory effects. They believe that CBD is a “promising therapeutic agent” for treating acne.

Is it effective for face and body acne?

Since the mechanism of acne in the body is the same as that of facial acne, products containing CBD can help reduce acne. Many manufacturers of skincare products incorporate CBD into soaps or shower gels. Although CBD products may not specifically target acne patients, their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties may bring some benefits.

Could it help with acne scars?

Acne scars are potential skin damage caused by acne and skin picking. A study published in the journal La Clinica Terapeutica studied 20 participants with scars associated with psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The participants used a CBD-rich salve on the skin scars twice a day for three months. After three months, the researchers found that the CBD ointment significantly improved the appearance of the skin in areas such as elasticity and hydration. CBD product have been shown; in these studies, to help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

What about other skin problems?

A study on psoriasis (eczema outside of skin folds) published in the journal PeerJ Life & Environment found that for people with psoriasis, the outlook is promising. Studies have found that cannabinoid receptors in the skin have the ability to reduce the excessive growth of skin cells, which is a common problem in psoriasis patients. Researchers believe that cannabinoids may have the potential to “turn off” receptors that cause excessive build-up in the skin. Because the researchers did not conduct research on live skin (they used human cadaver skin), it is difficult to say if the research results can be replicated. However, this study shows the hope of people who want to use CBD products to reduce psoriasis symptoms. Itchy Skin According to a report in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), one of the most promising uses for CBD is to treat itchy skin. The journal cited a 2005 Trusted Source study, it was found that 81% of hemodialysis patients with itchy skin can completely relieve symptoms by using a cream containing CBD. Nerve endings in the skin that indicate itchy skin enter the brain. When mixed with calming ingredients in lotions and oils, the effect can be reduced.

What are the downsides?

The CBD safety study published in the journal “Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research” shows that CBD has “good safety.” Researchers have found that the most common side effects are fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in appetite. However, these side effects are mainly for people using CBD, not people using CBD locally as a topical on the skin. If you have symptoms like local swelling, itching, or peeling, you may have an allergic reaction to topically applied CBD.

How do I use it?

To use products that contain CBD start by washing the affected area with soap and water. You may want to use cold compresses to soothe irritated skin. If you think you have an allergic reaction, stop using CBD products.

Where do I get Acne / Eczema specific CBD creams?

Many manufacturers of skin care products are beginning to sell CBD products. However, there are very few brands that specifically have product lines dedicated to acne and eczema. Nora CBD is one such brand. Our cream has been designed to clear acne and smooth skin. It is safe, natural, and tested for purity. Made with broad spectrum CBD and salycilic acid to aid skin health.

Are all CBD products the same?

Unfortunately, according to a research report published in JAMATrusted Source, not every CBD labelled products actually contain ample amounts of CBD. In this study, the researchers tested 84 products with CBD labels. They found that 26% of the products tested contained less CBD oil than the amount stated in the advertisement, which can affect the effectiveness of the product. Most acne treatments are cooking oil. As consumers, one way to ensure product quality is to buy products from a company that uses an independent laboratory to verify labels.

Is it legal?

Congress passed a bill called the Agricultural Improvement Act or Farm Bill. The bill legalized industrial hemp at the federal level. According to the reliable source of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), if the content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the cannabis plant is less than 0.3%, it is not considered cannabis. If the THC content exceeds 0.3%, it is considered cannabis. Tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive compound in cannabis, which causes a high incidence of cannabis.

The bottom line.

State and local laws can determine if you can legally buy and use CBD products. CBD products seem to be an effective way to treat acne and eczema. Dermatologists are in the process of conducting large-scale research on living skin. Before researchers carry out these studies, the smaller lab studies look to be really promising. If you buy CBD products for acne, read the label carefully and then buy the products from reputable companies whose products have been tested in independent laboratories.
