How To Make CBD Oil Taste Better

It's almost impossible to ignore CBD oil's earthy or grassy taste because it is extracted from a plant. The natural taste of CBD oil has turned out to be a huge turn-off for most people who take CBD oil. A lot of people don't exactly appreciate the organic taste of CBD.

Rather than miss out on the amazing benefits of CBD, most CBD users (especially newcomers) want to know if there's a method to hack the flavor of a CBD oil, give it a whole different taste without messing up its components.

It may be possible to alter the taste of CBD oil without altering its effectiveness. This post is a guide to understanding why CBD oil tastes the way it does. What you can mix with CBD oil that won't alter it's effectiveness, alongside what shouldn't be mixed with CBD oil.

Why does CBD oil taste bitter and grassy?

The basic reason is that cannabidiol (another name for CBD) naturally has a bitter taste. But the cannabidiol itself isn't to be blamed for the bad taste you experience, as Hemp contains high levels of chlorophyll, and this strong-tasting, green substance is very present in hemp flower extract.

And CBD oil is a hemp-derived product. A major contributing factor to the intensely bitter taste you experience is Terpenes. If you've ever visited a hemp field, you're probably familiar with the cannabis plant's distinct scent. That aroma comes from terpenes.

Terpenes are another compound found in some CBD oils, which affects the way the oil tastes. They are not just exclusive to cannabis and hemp plants; these phytochemicals can be found in various plants. They're popularly known for providing these plants with their aromas and flavors.

However, their inclusion isn't just because of how they influence flavors and aroma; According to research, certain terpenes contain antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and soothing properties a lot more. It is believed that they significantly contribute towards the "Entourage Effect."

Terpenes contribute heavily to the scent and taste of botanicals. When tasting a hemp extract and experiencing a very earthy or grassy flavor, just know you are meeting terpenes face-to-face. It's what gives wine and beer their distinct flavors and aromas as well.

Another distinct reason is that not all CBD oils are equal. What kind of extract it is and how it was extracted, including the process of the oil's production, determines the taste of the oil. One oil could taste very different from another. for example; a full-spectrum CBD oil will taste different from a broad spectrum CBD oil.

Most of the time, the flavor of a CBD oil will depend on the kind of extract it is, filtered/purified, and the oil base used to carry it. Most oils are usually described as having an earthy taste, and some are described as being much smoother and more palatable than others.

Can I mix CBD oil with juice?

If the juice is a fruit extract, then yes, you can take it alongside a fruit juice. The kind of fruit from which the juice was extracted is also crucial because CBD oil only interacts with certain fruits. The recommended fruit juice to mix with CBD oil extracted from fruits that contain high citric acid content, for example, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc. Anything with a high citric acid content will potentially interact with the benefits of CBD.

The most effective mix of CBD oil and fruit juice is to space consumption between the CBD oil and the juice to at least 1-2 hours. This gives the cannabinoid enough time to interact with the body and allows your mucous membranes to absorb the CBD immediately.

Consuming a mixture of CBD oil and fruit juice may cause the enzymes in the two products to compete for your receptors attention, which may lead to disturbance in the ECS (endocannabinoid system) and may also cause the CBD oil to be less effective in the body.

Can I mix CBD oil in my Vape Juice/E-Liquid?

The answer is No! You can't mix anything that has oil content into something you breathe in. Vape juice's side effects are pneumonia, and when mixed with CBD oil, it causes a lethal side effect; you can get Lipid pneumonia, a very severe and nasty health issue.

E-Liquid is not advisable, as it usually contains nicotine which is a stimulant, it's effects are opposite to that of CBD. When E-Liquid is mixed in CBD oil, it reduces the effectiveness of the cannabinoids and terpenes contained in the product.

How to hide the taste and smell of CBD oil?

Every newcomer needs to understand that CBD oil tastes similar to other varieties of cannabis. When CBD oil is said to taste earthy, it doesn't mean it no longer tastes like cannabis. The regular and best means of consuming CBD oil is putting the oil under the tongue and then waiting for a timeframe of 30-60 seconds before swallowing.

This method is scientifically known as Sublingual Administration, although this method of consumption exposes your taste buds to the full flavor of the CBD oil. Regardless of how effective this method is, it still doesn't mask the bitter taste of CBD oil when being consumed. So how can one hide or reduce the strong taste of CBD oil? Below are means of masking the bitter flavor of CBD oil:

Consume something sweet after taking CBD oil

This is a very simple trick to avoiding CBD oil flavor. For instance, you could take a spoonful of honey or peanut butter or a piece of chocolate or any snacks after administering the drops below your tongue. You could also take a sip of juice and hold it in your mouth while the CBD is absorbing sublingually.

The issue with this method is that you may end up diluting the CBD oil. This means your body will probably receive a low amount of active compound. The amount of CBD oil consumed will enter your body, but because some of it mixed up with whatever you consumed alongside the CBD oil, some amount will enter your digestive system; it won't be absorbed into your bloodstream simultaneously.

One way to fight this (and help cover up the taste simultaneously) is to try a CBD gummy. Most are delicious, and they'll deliver a supplemental boost of CBD along with your sublingual consumption.

Before Consuming CBD Oil - Brush Your Teeth

Toothpaste nullifies your tongue's ability to taste certain flavors. So, when you eat something immediately after brushing your teeth, it tends to tastes different despite the food not having changed its flavor. An illustration to help you properly understand this: if you have ever drunk any citrus juice or ate any citrus fruit just after brushing your teeth. You'll most likely experience the most unpleasant flavor of your life.

This can also work with CBD oil. Brush your teeth, then apply the CBD oil directly under your tongue. Though it may still taste bitter, you won't feel its intense flavor as much as you would have if you had taken it the regular way. You can also combine this with the ever-popular trick of holding your nose.

This method is popular, and many people are familiar with holding their noses to cope with an awful taste on their tongue; it works. The science behind it is that you lose almost half of your ability to taste by blocking your sense of smell. This can make it a lot easier to swallow something with an unpleasant aroma like CBD oil.

Use Mints or Gums

Mints and chewing gums are great options when trying to mask the strong taste of CBD oil; you can take the mint or chewing gum after ingesting the CBD oil to reduce the bitter taste of the CBD.

Some persons suck on a mint right before they take their CBD oil. Mints have a strong aroma; they can also hide the taste of your CBD oil. Peppermint mixes well with CBD, but you can also try out different flavors of mints to determine which flavor works best for you.

Masking the taste of CBD oil may reduce the effectiveness of the oil. And some of the above methods may reduce the number of cannabinoids and terpenes compounds that will enter your bloodstream. I advise that you get accustomed to the bitter taste of CBD oil. Always consume your CBD oil without mixing or pairing it with any substances; this way, your taste buds will get used to the taste of your CBD oil.
